Kirti Mathura

Kirti Mathura worked in different capacities as a horticulturist at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ for seventeen years, after serving six years as a Garden volunteer.

 

Kirti has a B. A. degree in botany and environmental biology from the University of Montana.  After completing her degree, she worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, running a tree nursery and teaching environmental education in public schools.

 

Kirti is an enthusiastic speaker, participating in conferences and offering numerous lectures and workshops on various landscaping and gardening topics.  She has been a guest and participant on several television and radio shows over the years.

Kirti has also written or contributed to landscaping and gardening publications, including The Arizona Low Desert Flower Garden, published by Gibbs Smith, Publisher, and Desert Landscaping for Beginners, published by Arizona Master Gardener Press.  She has been a contributor to various magazines such as Infinity Magazine and the Desert Botanical Garden’s publication, The Sonoran Quarterly.

Kirti is currently a member of the Central Arizona Cactus and Succulent Society, the Arizona Native Plant Society, the Arizona Herb Association (past president and past board member), the Herb Society of America (previously serving on the Grant Selection Committee and currently on the Promising Plant Committee and chairperson of the Native Plant Committee, and recipient of the Helen de Conway-Little Medal of Honor), and a Master Gardener Emeritus. In 2010 Kirti was awarded the prestigious title of Master of the South West by Phoenix Home and Garden Magazine for her contribution to public horticulture for the Phoenix community
